Ayahuasca and San Pedro are two of the most revered master plants of South America. People often ask which one is right for them. The honest answer is that they offer different teachings — and they complement each other beautifully.

Two spirits, two energies

Ayahuasca carries the nurturing, introspective energy of a strong mother. San Pedro — also called Huachuma or Wachuma — embodies the wise, gentle presence of a grandfather.

  • Ayahuasca is an inward journey. It guides you deep within yourself, offering profound insight into your challenges and showing you what needs to change.
  • San Pedro is outward-focused. It expands your awareness of your multidimensional nature and opens your heart to love, peace and connection with the world around you, giving you the strength to create change.

Where they come from

Ayahuasca is a brew of the Banisteriopsis caapi vine and the chacruna plant, held at the heart of Amazonian shamanic traditions. San Pedro is a cactus of the Andes, revered by the descendants of ancient American cultures as a Master Plant used to cleanse body, mind and spirit. How the experience differs

Ayahuasca ceremonies are usually held at night, often with eyes closed, guided by icaros and medicine music. The journey can be visionary, emotional and cathartic, and purging is common — understood as a release of what no longer serves you.

San Pedro ceremonies are often held in nature, during the day or night. The experience tends to be heart-opening and expansive, with a feeling of connection to the land, to others and to the beauty of life. Participants often describe it as gentle and clarifying.

Which should I choose?

  • Choose Ayahuasca if you feel called to go deep into the roots of your patterns, grief or trauma, and to receive direct insight into what needs to change.
  • Choose San Pedro if you are seeking heart-opening, clarity and connection, or wish to integrate and embody insights you have already received.
  • If you are unsure, start with a conversation. Your intentions, health and experience help us choose together.

Combining both in a retreat

In a multi-day retreat the two medicines work as a pair, with a 24-hour break between ceremonies. Ayahuasca shows you what needs to change; San Pedro helps you carry those insights into your daily life with clarity and purpose. It is one of the most complete ways to experience both teachers.
